How the character grows, year by year

The design isn't just a number that changes. The whole character develops — her face matures, her proportions shift from toddler-round to coltish to grown, and the things she's holding and wearing reflect where a girl that age actually is.

Ages 1–4 — the wonder years. The very first birthday design is a little different: it shows the world she’s about to grow up in — her bedroom, the space she’ll explore — rather than the girl herself. From her second birthday the girl appears, with a big round face, wide eyes and soft baby features, a balloon or a favourite teddy in hand. Everything is new and magical, and the design holds onto that wide-eyed sweetness.

Ages 5–9 — the busy years. Her face has thinned, there's a proper grin, and her interests start to show — princesses, painting, dancing, animals, building worlds out of anything she can find. This is the age where the design really comes alive, because this is the age girls come alive.

Ages 10–13 — the change. She's taller, more thoughtful, the smile is a little more knowing. Soft toys give way to friendship bracelets, sketchbooks, music and phone-in-hand social lives. Early teens are when girls step into themselves, and the design catches that shift.

Ages 14–17 — finding her style. Fashion matters now. The design shows a teenager, not a child — a taller frame, a bit more poise, interests moving toward music, travel, sport, the causes and hobbies she'll carry into adulthood.

Ages 18–21 — the young woman. The round face is gone. She's standing tall, the celebration is bigger, and the design finally catches up with the adult she's becoming. By 21 the little girl who started this journey on her first birthday card is all grown up.
